The William A. Doyle Memorial Scholarship

New Jersey Chapter #1, provides scholarships and relief to Brother Knights and their families in affiliated councils.  Additionally, New Jersey Chapter #1 strongly supports vocations, and therefore, is pleased to announce its newest scholarship offering to Permanent Deacon Candidates in affiliated councils, subject to the following conditions and qualifications:

Awarding of Permanent Deacon Candidate Scholarships:
The “William A. Doyle Memorial Scholarship for Permanent Deacons” is an annually renewable grant not to exceed the amount of $1,500 per semester (Fall and/or Spring) for each eligible Permanent Deacon Candidate, to be awarded on behalf of the recipient and payable to the Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology to directly reduce the cost of the recipient’s share of the tuition and directly related expenses in pursuit of becoming a Permanent Deacon in fulfillment of the Master’s-level graduate education requirements for the Permanent Diaconate Formation Program set by the recipient’s Archdiocese/Diocese. 

Qualifications:
Applicant must be a diocesan-approved Permanent Deacon Candidate for their diocesan Permanent Diaconate Formation Program and be enrolled in diocesan-approved Master’s-level courses at the Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology at Seton Hall University. Applicant must be able to meet all diocesan Permanent Diaconate Formation Program requirements, as well as all scholastic and other requirements of the seminary and university during attendance there at.

Eligibility:
Applicant must be a current member in good standing of a council affiliated with the Chapter and said council shall have at least four years of continuous membership in the Chapter immediately prior to the deadline for the scholarship application. Additionally, applicants for this scholarship:
(a) must be a parishioner of a parish served by his council,
(b) must be anticipated to be assigned as a Permanent Deacon in a parish served by his council, AND
(c) must receive significant financial contributions toward his tuition expenses (usually 1/3 of the
overall cost) from a parish served by his council.

How to Apply:
Permanent Deacon Candidate Applicants who desire to be considered for these scholarship grants shall annually signify their candidacy by submitting a letter (Form 22232 or equivalent – Click HERE for application letter) to the Grand Knight of the council through which applicant derived their qualification, setting forth their desire to be considered for this scholarship, along with a scan/image of their signed Knights of Columbus Membership/Traveling Card and additional informational data. The Grand Knight and Financial Secretary of the Council concerned, upon receipt of such application, will certify as to the eligibility of the member by providing pertinent data and affixing their signatures & Council Seal (mandatory) to the form. The GK or FS (not the applicant) is to scan the application as a .pdf file (with a clearly visible Council Seal) and email the file and membership card scan/image (as attachments) to Scholarship Chairman Boyle at to be received no later than August 1, 2025 for the Fall 2025 (& optionally Spring 2026) semester(s) or no later than December 1, 2025 for only the Spring 2026 semester.  A return email will confirm receipt and advise if all is in order.

Application Fee: This will be assumed by the Scholarship Committee.
