NJ Chapter #1 Announces the Winners of the James J. McMahon Memorial Scholarships - May 2026

          New Jersey Chapter #1, Knights of Columbus, comprised of 15 local councils from Central and Northern New Jersey, is pleased to announce the winners of their Annual James J. McMahon Memorial Scholarships.

          Samantha Donnelly, daughter of Knights of Columbus member Matt Donnelly of Dr. McDowell Council 2248 in Florham Park/Madison, NJ, was the recipient of the “James J. McMahon Memorial Scholarship A” valued at $10,000 each year for four years for a grand total of $40,000.  

          Enya Callaghan, daughter of Knights of Columbus member Anthony Callaghan of Dr. McDowell Council 2248 in Florham Park/Madison, NJ, was the recipient of the “James J. McMahon Memorial Scholarship B” valued at $8,000 each year for four years for a grand total of $32,000.   

          These scholarship grants are awarded based on academic excellence, as well as notable involvement in school and community activities.  Scholarship winner Samantha Donnelly will be attending Notre Dame University in Notre Dame, Indiana, and scholarship winner Enya Callaghan will be attending Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut.  The officers and members of New Jersey Chapter #1 congratulate them both and wish them continued success in their studies and all their endeavors.

          In addition to their scholarship efforts, New Jersey Chapter #1 Knights of Columbus provides relief to eligible members of affiliated local councils for a total amount of aid disbursed of over $70,000 per year.    Since their inception in 1903, New Jersey Chapter #1 has disbursed over 2.79 million dollars.  New Jersey Chapter #1 invites eligible councils from Central and Northern New Jersey to join NJ Chapter #1.  For further information about New Jersey Chapter #1 Knights of Columbus, contact Chapter Secretary Thomas A. NJ Chapter #1 Announces the Recipient of the William A. Doyle Memorial Scholarship for Permanent Deacons - December 2025

          New Jersey Chapter #1, Knights of Columbus, comprised of 15 local councils from Central and Northern New Jersey, is pleased to announce the recipient of the “William A. Doyle Memorial Scholarship for Permanent Deacons” for the Spring 2026 semester of Diaconate Formation at the Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology.

          Permanent Deacon Candidate and Knights of Columbus Member Benjamin Chiang, of Msgr. Watterson Council 1711 in Westfield, NJ, was the recipient of a $1,500 grant for the Spring 2026 semester at the Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology at Seton Hall University.  He is a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Mountainside, NJ in the Newark Archdiocese and will complete his Diaconate Formation and be ordained as a Permanent Deacon in June 2028.

          In 2022, the “William A. Doyle Memorial Scholarship for Permanent Deacons” was established to show the Chapter’s strong support of vocations and to honor the memory of a faithful departed Past Chapter Chairman and Trustee Emeritus, Bill Doyle, PGK, PFN, PCC.  Trustee Emeritus Bill Doyle was an admired and respected member of the Order for over 70 years and was instrumental in leading New Jersey Chapter #1 in providing relief and scholarships to deserving Brother Knights and their families.  As a devout Catholic and strong supporter of the Catholic Church, Trustee Emeritus Bill Doyle exemplified the teachings of the Catholic Church and the principles of the Order throughout his life and demonstrated his deep faith in God and belief in good Catholic family values.

          The officers and members of New Jersey Chapter #1, Knights of Columbus, wish our award recipient an academically successful and personally fulfilling semester on his path to being ordained as a Permanent Deacon.  We are blessed that he has answered God’s calling and we will keep him in our thoughts and prayers.

          Timothy Logan, son of Knights of Columbus member Joseph Logan of Dr. McDowell Council 2248 in Florham Park/Madison, NJ, was the recipient of the “James J. McMahon Memorial Scholarship A” valued at $8,000 each year for four years for a grand total of $32,000.  

          Anne Egan, daughter of Knights of Columbus member Patrick Egan of Dr. McDowell Council 2248 in Florham Park/Madison, NJ, was the recipient of the “James J. McMahon Memorial Scholarship B” valued at $5,000 each year for four years for a grand total of $20,000.   

          These scholarship grants are awarded based on academic excellence, as well as notable involvement in school and community activities.  Both scholarship winners, Timothy Logan and Anne Egan, will be attending Georgetown University in Washington, DC.  The officers and members of New Jersey Chapter #1 congratulate them both and wish them continued success in their studies and all their endeavors.
